Immerhin eines der ganz ganz wenigen Werke unter sämtlichen Nominierten, das bereits auf deutsch erschienen ist. Sehr schön.
Einziges Manko: Es ist ein erster Teil ... wer weiß, ob es die Folgebände jemals bis zu uns schaffen werden. Und selbst im Original muss man noch etwas Geduld aufbringen: Teil 2 ist für März 2021 angekündigt.
Trotzdem: Ich werd's demnächst als Urlaubslektüre lesen.

Nun habe ich den Siegerroman von Arkady Martine gelesen und mein erster Eindruck ist: Joa - ich glaube die Stärken erkennen zu können, aber so richtig überwältigt bin ich nicht.
Man muss Spaß an rhetorischen Duellen, diplomatischen Verwicklungen und Zwischen-den-Zeilen - Dialogen haben, um das Buch genießen zu können. Wer spektakuläre Welten oder zügige Handlung erwartet, dürfte sich schnell langweilen. Vor allem in der ersten Hälfte.

Ich fand es insgesamt ganz gut ... allerdings nicht sehr gut.

Echt, ich fand den Roman ganz ausgezeichnet. Es braucht tatsächlich ein paar Seiten, bis die Sache in Gang kommt und bis man sich an die Namen gewöhnt hat, so ca. 80 Seiten, aber dann wird es rasant und mir gefallen die ganzen sprachlichen Schönheiten und das ganze von Arkady Martine entworfene Universum misamt seiner Politik und Poesie. Ich will Band 2, jetzt, sofort.

Das macht mich sehr sehr neugierig, denn das was dubpositiv beschreibst, ist genau mein Ding.

Leider habe ich zunehmend das Problem dass ich mir den Inhalt des letzten Bandes einer Serie nicht in der Tiefe merken kann, damit es mir Spass macht. Geht mir auch bei TV Serien so.

    Der 2. Band der wohl beabsichtigten Trilogie, „A Desolation Called Peace“ ist für den 2.3.21 avisiert. Das ist schon bald, und Dein Kauf des 1. Bandes in der Übersetzung steigert die Chance, dass wir bald Band 2 auch auf deutsch lesen können. ;-)

    AnnaLinden Weller ist ja erst 35, die kann schneller schreiben als GRRM...

      A Memory Called Empire (dt: Im Herzen des Imperiums), by Arkady Martine (Tor; Tor UK)
      Immerhin eines der ganz ganz wenigen Werke unter sämtlichen Nominierten, das bereits auf deutsch erschienen ist. Sehr schön.
      Einziges Manko: Es ist ein erster Teil ... wer weiß, ob es die Folgebände jemals bis zu uns schaffen werden. Und selbst im Original muss man noch etwas Geduld aufbringen: Teil 2 ist für März 2021 angekündigt.
      Trotzdem: Ich werd's demnächst als Urlaubslektüre lesen.
