Joseph Campbell sieht das weniger als eine praktische Öse, sondern als einen mythologischen Beweis:Uschi Zietsch hat geschrieben: 25. In "Goddesses", Campbell explains that Odysseus's 20-year absence (10 years at war, 10 years wandering) represents the exact mythical timeframe required to reconcile the solar and lunar calendars. The trial of the twelve axes represents the final, perfect alignment of these two cosmic forces. By shooting the arrow cleanly through the twelve axes, Odysseus proves he is in perfect harmony with the cosmic order, qualifying him to restore balance to a chaotic, defiled Ithaca.
