War schon länger im Gespräch, wie auch die geplant Fortsetzung Tron V2.0, welches dann aber nur in der Spielform erschien.

Disney Remaking Tron

Disney has hired screenwriters Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal to fashion a remake of Tron, the 1982 film about a computer programmer who gets sucked into the parallel world of a computer program, Variety reported.

The original movie, written and directed by Steven Lisberger, was considered ahead of its time. Klugman and Sterntha (Warrior) feel that the world has caught up with Lisberger's original concept, making it ripe for redo, the trade paper reported.

Sternthal told the trade paper that the new conceit is that the computer programmer gets trapped in a cyberworld, so that the film can utilize the Internet.

Stimmt, wie auch in der TAS !

Und hier wird wieder eine neue DC-Comicfigur auf die Leinwand gebracht:
Davis Conjures Zatanna

Writer Hadley Davis told SCI FI Wire that she is drafting the script for a movie adaptation of Zatanna, the venerable DC Comics sorceress, with an update for a teen audience. "It's sort of an obscure DC Comic book," Davis said in an interview. "Well, I say that, and then people who know comic books know the comic. It has existed for years and years, but she is a female magician. It's for Warner Brothers and [producer] Denise DiNovi, and we've made her sort of a teen magician."

Zatanna first appeared in 1964's Hawkman number four, by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, and subsequently showed up alongside many of DC Comics' original Justice League of America superheroes. The latest incarnation of the character, in DC's upcoming four-issue Seven Soldiers: Zatanna, shows her as a contemporary young woman dealing with a reality TV show, an enforced detox on the Amazonian island of Themyscira and the legacy of her mysterious magician father.

Davis (Ice Princess) said that the challenge in adapting the character to the big screen is creating believable obstacles for her to overcome. "The challenge with that is that magic is a challenging thing to do in a script," Davis said. "If someone is magical, they can do anything: They can solve any problem you might put in their way. So you have to create the rules of the world, and it's a completely different kind of challenge."

Davis said that her script will differ in its approach to comic book-oriented material from previous Warner Brothers adaptations, such as the Batman series. "It's more of a [comedic] and kind of tweeny, teen-[oriented]," Davis said. "I've really just dealt with the producer, Di Novi [Practical Magic], except for my pitch, but this is really different in tone than the things that they've been bringing out."

und eine neue meldung aus der bunten welt der comic-verfilmungen:
Iron Man Tests Card's Mettle

Hugo-Award-winning SF novelist Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game) told SCI FI Wire that he will re-imagine Marvel Comics' Iron Man by following the example of The WB's Smallville, a retelling of the Superman origin story. Marvel has asked Card to write two five-issue miniseries of Ultimate Iron Man, the first issue of which is out now. "I respond only to the Smallville angle, where the real person is Clark Kent, and it is the Superman role that fits him uncomfortably," Card said in an interview.

Card added: "That's one reason I appreciated the chance to work with Iron Man. There is no doubt that Tony Stark is the real guy, and Iron Man only a role he puts on and takes off. I think what I'm fascinated with is the development of a person into a superhero, which is why I love the Spider-Man movies but am left cold by other superhero films that jump too quickly to a full-blown, guy-wearing-a-suit adventure story. So as I work on the Ultimate Iron Man series, that's what I'm concentrating on, not the adventures of the guy in the elaborate Iron Man suit, but rather the child growing up with the kind of extraordinary needs and abilities and handicaps that turn him into someone as interestingly noble and yet troubled as Tony Stark."

Card had never heard of Iron Man until Nick Lowe at Marvel contacted him. He was immediately drawn to the character. "What intrigued me was the way that he, unlike any other superhero, represents in an iconic way the path of our society," Card said. "We are powerful, but only because of the technology we 'wear.' Yet our very reliance on technology weakens us in the natural world. Abilities our ancestors had—and the huge amount of knowledge they had of the natural world and how to live from and within it—are simply lost to us. We are relatively helpless outside our technological cocoon. So in developing my version of Iron Man for the Ultimate series—which provides the luxury of being able to reinvent the hero without being tied to decisions made decades ago—what I wanted was to concentrate on Tony's vulnerability without some kind of protection from the outside world, based on very high technology. So my version of Tony Stark is 'technological man': immensely powerful, yet dependent, crutchlike, on the high-tech armor with which he surrounds his life. It suggests that despite his courage and intelligence, he is also constantly aware of fear: not a bad description, I think, of our high-tech civilization. We might be sentimental about nature, but in fact we can't let go of high technology as a civilization because our civilization would die without it."

Card said he has no concerns moving to comics, because he has written other media, including plays, audio plays and video scripts. But how many he will do remains to be seen. "A lot depends on how happy Marvel is with what I do with the first five books, and of course on how the readers receive them," he said. "If nobody much cares for the direction in which I take Tony Stark, then it would be silly to leave the series in my hands! But if readers, publisher and I are all still interested, we'll probably do another five books and then see what happens."

Watchmen Script Review
Source: CHUD March 29, 2005

CHUD.com has posted a review of the upcoming Watchmen film written by David Hayter and to be directed by Paul Greengrass.
Below is an excerpt of the review.

How do you adapt one of the richest, most complex and best received comic books – sorry, graphic novels! – of all time? You don’t, cry legions of comic fans.

But let’s say you did. One of the best ways to go about it would be to focus in on the basic story and the themes, cut away what’s left over and remain terrifically faithful to the work. And that’s essentially what David Hayter has done with his December 2003 draft of Watchmen, based on the book by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Keep in mind that this review is based on a script from the end of ’03, so many changes have certainly been made since then. It’s really important to note that this script is only a couple of months older than the one that Stax reviewed for IGN FilmForce in ’04, but it has fixed almost everything that sounded awful in that draft, which included such disasters as Laurie having superpowers – that is not in this later draft.

The script opens with the beating and murder of Eddie Blake, the one time costumed operative known as The Comedian. Rorschach – the last of the costumed vigilantes still operating in a world that outlawed them a decade ago – begins investigating the murder, convinced that there’s a conspiracy behind it. He tries to enlist his old partner, Dan Dreiberg, the now-retired Night Owl, but Dan – who spends many of his evenings with the original Nite Owl, Hollis Mason – wants nothing to do with it.

ein weiteres detail über superman:
Langella Joins Superman

Frank Langella will play newspaper editor Perry White in Superman Returns, replacing British actor Hugh Laurie, who had said in January that he had all but clinched the part. Variety reported that Langella will play the Daily Planet editor in Bryan Singer's film, which is set to shoot in Australia for Warner Brothers.

Langella joins a cast that includes Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor and Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris penned the script.

The Hollywood Reporter said that Laurie was originally cast in the role, but bowed out because of a scheduling conflict with his Fox medical series, House, which Singer executive produces.
